1987 honda accord stalling?

I have a 1987 Honda Accord, when it starts up it idles fairly high for a few minutes.
Initially in the 2500-3000+RPM range. After it runs or is driven for a few minutes (3-10 min.) the idle kicks down to about 750RPM or less. It sometimes idles down so low it just stalls. This is especially annoying while at traffic lights, because I constantly have to rev the engine to keep it running. What could cause this behavior? What can I do to fix it? Can I do this at home? I'm pretty handy with most things, worked on cars many times, so am capable of doing most repairs. I just don't know how to diagnose this problem. This has been going on for several months, possibly over a year. I would really appreciate any insight :)
forgot to add this: It is a manual transmission 4 cyl. carbeurated
