truck blew a head gasket didnt over heat but it had been building pressure in the hose for a long long time and finally it blew . would it be wise to just put a thick gasket on it or should i have the head shaved. it didnt over heat at the time it blew it was under normal operating conditions.

As long as the head hasn't been warped, a standard replacement gasket will work just fine. Head warp can be checked by laying a straight edge diagonally, vertically and horizontally across the edges of the head and measure any clearance with a feeler gage.
