1986 mazda b2000 dash lights not working?

so when i first bought the truck the dash lights didnt work and after owning it for over a month i turned on my headlights one night leaving work and they turned on then they shut off then turned on like 5 minutes later then shut off and they have not worked since and i didnt hit a big bump or anything to make them turn on why would this be
