Ok thought I had a alternator/stator/ voltage regulator problem, cause the volt meter was registering only 11.6 even with a new battery in it.. to find a burnt out broken wire at the voltage regulator...so I fixed the wire up now reading 13.7 .... put bike back together then took bike out for test run... smelt something burning on the ride then all sudden bike started running bad again and volts came back down to 11- 11.3... came home strip down the bike again to find the wire had burnt out and was broken again... fixed the wires up again, didn't put the bike back together yet so i could watch to see whats happening when running... i noticed that the wire harness coming from the voltage regulator as well as the regulator's housing was getting hotter and hotter to the point where i couldn't touch them anymore and quickly shut down the engine ... so my question is do think that the voltage regulator is not doing what its supposed to be doing and that if I replace it do you think that by doing so it should fix the problem? Thanks for every ones opinions.....

is the plug at the left side of the battery still there with the three yellow wires? if it is then the plug needs to be removed and the wire soldered togeather this is the weak point in the 1200 charging system and can cause stator failure, it is normal for the rectifier to get hot, if the wire is breaking off the rectifier then there is a bad connection in the harness plug I''d replace the regulator and see what happens.,
