1985 honda 200s three wheeler problem?

I have a 1985 honda 200s three wheeler. i recently had problem with it idling but we fixed it and it ran pretty well. well today when i tryed starting it it wouldnt run unless i sprayed starting fluid into the air filiter. it would idle off that but if i hit the throttle it would die. please help with advice on this. i think i need a fuel filter but help on this would be great.
