1985 chevy k10 wit 350 no a/c altornator not charging?

i have a good grond from batt to block and new battery and when it is running its fine but when i take the battery cable off its shuts off and i also have a new alternator
 
Well since the voltage reg is built in id check the fusible link from the alternator wire to the starter solenoid, if it still doesn't charge then id suspect a bad "new" alternator
