1981 suzuki gs550 t problems?

i own a 1981 suzuki gs550 t street bike...i just bought it...it has 12k miles on it and when u start it..itll pop and crack at 4-5000rpm....its a 4 cylinder
and i cant tell what side it doing it but i think some of them bike came with points....could it be the points dirty???or could the spark plug wires be bad???
 
Probably bad carb needle valves and/or contaminated gasoline stuck in the carb. This happens if anyone lets a bike sit too long (IE 4+ months) without use and doesn't use fuel stabilizer. My Kawasaki Ex500 did the same thing. A good independent mechanic should charge you about $200-$225 to fix it.
