1972 Suzuki T500J Titan

For the past 20 Years my dad has had this motorcycle sitting in our garage doing nothing but collecting dust, spiderwebs, etc... Well yesterday i decided to take all the junk that had piled up on top of it off and pull the motorcycle out into the middle of the garage to see what it might require to get it running again. Im not sure what kind of oil it takes, gear box and engine oil. I was told by a couple ppl at my A&P school that i should spray some oil in the cylinders and drain the oil tank and re fill it. Then go a head and try to fire it up. any other suggestions would be welcome. And if anybody knows the oil type and quantity for the gear box and engine that would be great.

The Titan was a great bike. You need to be aware that it is a 2-stroke motor (one of the last such street legal bikes). So somewhere there's a tank to hold oil for the engine oil injector. I can't remember if the transmission had it's own oil reservoir, but I think so.

I'd recommend draining & replacing all the fluids, clean the plugs and points (a bike that vintage probably does not have electronic ignition), and maybe even gingerly kick it over a few times with plugs out to make sure it's not frozen.

There's probably an old-time mechanic at the dealer who can tell lots more.

At Americade this year, I met I guy who had ridden a Titan to the event from Rhode Island. He's owned it since it was new. In his words: "when it quits running, I'll quit riding it"
