1968 Ford Falcon Sputtering and Stalling?

I'm having some problems getting the 68 Falcon I just bought to run right. So here goes: I bought the car and it ran and drove fine for the first two days. Then, on a long trip (45 miles or so) it started to get a little sputtering so when I got it home I looked at the carburetor. The throttle linkage on the back end of the carb was bypassed so that the choke stayed permanently open a tiny bit. Rather than rebuild that one I swapped a carb from my 68 Ranchero that shares the same engine. It was a bit dirty but not bad. So then it ran great again. Drove it 20 miles then parked it for a few, then later went to go to the store and I got 100 feet or so and it sputtered and stalled. Could BARELY get it to start back up again. But I got it back to the house, messed with the carb a little then got it to fire up for a few seconds but it was real rough, so I adjusted the timing and it ran fantastic while idling and reving in park or neutral. But as soon as I put it in gear and drive it, it jerks, sputters and wants to stall. Then, when I park it it doesn't want to fire up again.

I hope I provided enough information for someone to see the problem! PLEASE HELP! I want my car back! Also, the engine is a 200ci L6 with a 3sp on the column.
