62' Newport, I am replacing the fuel pump for a lady on this model car. I have installed the new fuel pump. I checked the rod and its straight, I put the pump in and nothing. Its not working, I tried priming it by sucking fuel through the pump. It will squirt 1 time a long line and then nothing. I can feel the rod making contact and I am just lost. I have removed and re-installed 10 times atleast with the same results.
WHAT AM I MISSING?????????
I did measure that the new pump arm is 1/4" longer than the old one. Is this just a bad pump???
If I press it by hand (Extremely hard to do) it seems to work fine. Its almost like the rod is not long enough to push the pump in all the way but the rod shows no sign of wear that I can see. We are going to compare the used rod to a new rod and see if there is some diffrence but this one has me STUMPED!!
THE MOTOR WILL NOT CRANK BUT WILL WITH STARTING FLUID THATS THE PROB
