17 x 7 rim on 225/45/17?

I'm getting 17 x 7 rims for my RX-7 FC and I looked around online and saw that 225's were slightly too wide for 7" width? And I'm seeing for other people that it fits fine. I want my rims to be flush with the tire for the most part so what width tire should I get? I'm thinking 215's but I'm not sure what that would look like. Pics of the tire and rim on 225's and 215's would be really helpful or pics of a tire that's flush with those rims.
 
Nonsense. I run 225/45R17 XL 94W DOT race tires on my autocross car on 17x7 wheels and they work perfectly. Certainly they are not squeezed onto the wheel. I would have perferred 7.5's but class rules don't allow it. Approved rim widths for this tire size though are 7.0 to 8.5 inches so they are fine.
