16 years old, getting my teeth extracted before I get braces, and I need some advice/suggestions?

Okay, so next Thursday, I'm scheduled to get 4 adult teeth removed. I don't know the name for these teeth, I just know they're labeled 4, 13, 29, and 20. After that, my orthodontist will proceed with putting the brackets on. I was told my teeth are straight even without braces so I'll probably have them on for less than a year, but in my case, the braces are supposed to lessen crowding and make the structure of my jawline improved.

So... I'm wondering:
1) Is having the extraction of 4 teeth NEARLY AS PAINFUL as the aftermath after my wisdom teeth were extracted? THAT WAS FREAKING HELL -___-
2) Once I get the extraction, what's the least amount of time before my orthodontist proceeds to the next step?
3) I realize I'll have gaps in my mouth, but are those gaps going to be visible? Are braces or anything else going to disguise the gaps? I'm one of those people who smiles for no reason, haha. And having gaps makes me extremely self-conscious.
4) For those of you who have/had braces, how did you feel or deal with the first couple of months?

Thanks in advance!
