16 of the Best Sci-Fi Cartoons

Sym-bionic Titan is already on a high pedestal being number 7. So don't disappoint, Genndy! (although I doubt he will, I can't wait for this).

How can they put Sym-Bionic on the list let alone so high when the show hasn't even premiered yet. The author loses credibility for that move.

Yeah, I assume just because it's another one of Genndy's works, and his other two are already on the list as well (with Samurai Jack being number 1). Of course I don't think it should be on here, but I do have good hopes for this show overall.

16. Exosquad
15. Men in Black: The Series
14. Invasion America
13. The Head
12. Shadow Raiders
11. Batman Beyond
10. Transformers G1 and Beast Wars
9. Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles
8. The Phantom 2040
7. Sym-bionic Titan
6. Star Wars: Clone Wars
5. ReBoot
4. Big Guy and Rusty the Boy Robot
3. Futurama
2. Aeon Flux
1. Samurai Jack

There's also an accompanying video showing a scene or the opening credits of each one as well as a paragraph explaining the choice.

Pretty good list. Here's my Top 5:

1. Batman Beyond
2. Star Wars: Clone Wars Micro-Series
3. Furturama
4. Flash Gordon (Filmation)
5. Aeon Flux & Phantom 2040 [tie]

Cowboy Bebop and Ghost In the Shell, as well as the classic Gatchaman, would definitely have made my list if Japanese cartoons were permitted.

Nice top 5, mine would probably be similar, but Batman Beyond would probably be a little bit higher.

That's another reason why I think the writer loses credibility. Why is anime discounted? Animes are cartoons so there's no reason for them be discounted like that. Especially since he doesn't really give a reason for it either.

I know he's using the genre term "sci-fi" in the strictest sense, but technically super-heroes are a sub-genre of science fiction, too. Iron Man, The X-Men, The Justice League, Superman, and even Batman have enough science-fiction elements to them to make them worthy of being listed.

Meh. Genndy boot licker!

I can't get into Peter Cheung's stuff... it just... doesn't agree with me.

And the Clone Wars micro serie was just annoying to watch because the rythmn of the scenes kept getting cut by episodes ending. It would have been a lot more watchable if it was posible to marathon it without having to sit through the credit and the LucasFilms logo every two minutes -.- It just couldn't build up enough dramatic momentum to keep me interested, especially since I'm not really a fan of Star Wars to begin with.

I much prefer the CGI Clone Wars, its less...mindless.

I really don't get this list since most of the choices are from shows I've never seen before. Plus ThunderCats isn't on that list. Wasn't ThunderCats a sci-fi cartoon too? Plus The Centurions isn't on the list either and I believe it was a good sci-fi cartoon. I guess not many people like The Centurions as much as I do...

Replace Symbionic Titan with Invader Zim, and its a pretty good list. I would also add Mighty Max in there somewhere. The only cheapie animated show with a series finale.

I'm a big fan of Centurions, but it was probably omitted from the list since it's always been considered one of the "lesser" 80s series. Which is a pity really, as it's apparent from multiple episodes of the series that many of the writers were fans of, and were encouraged to work in references to, many established literary hard science-fiction concepts.

I'm kinda shocked that neither Zim nor the Ben 10 series (heck, not even the superhero shows!) weren't on the list. I've only seen a few shows on the list, and I hope Sym-bionic Titan doesn't disappoint.
