...When I try to start working on a novel I always find that I get bored with it and restart! Any help? It's always been like this. I can write short stories, but whenever I start on a novel I can't ever get past the first page because I never know how to begin.

That is partially one of the reasons I end up getting bored with my ideas and quit on them.
 
Maybe you should write a book that has several short stories in it since this is what you prefer to write.
 
I know exactly how you feel! This happens to me all the time!
I think the most important thing is to KNOW YOUR CHARACTERS and MAP OUT YOUR PLOT before you begin writing. Hopefully, you'll have enough interest after all that to persevere and keep writing! Good luck.
