1198S or 1198?

well any updates?
I opted for a base 1098. Got the 25mm cartridge kit and TTX shock, 2nd hand wheels. overall that cost me 4200 but it is all custom sprung and valved for me and my riding style. Also the 1098 didn't have traction control either. I started to want an 11989 when I saw the extra 6ft lbs or torque and 8hp but it isn't like I'm using all of my power now so I'll chill for a bit.

although ducati get's a bad rap for reliability i'd say ktm pumps out bikes with far more issues than ducati does.

i own a 1198s and ktm 990. the fueling on the ktm is just horrible and i remember the reviews mentioning this about the rc8 as well.

MV Agusta except if they go under where will you source parts and service? I loved my 05 MV and wanted one badly then a buddy sold me on the twin. Also the guy I was supposed to buy the MV from kept cancelling the showing (it needs a new tire, it needs a new battery). I was like just knock $300 off of the price and lets do this!

if you are the type who loves to customize bikes, i beleive it will be cheaper for you in the long run if you get the S. Imagine if you bought the base model and decided that you would like to add a steering damper(costs around 700-800usd). now after a while you might want to customize your suspension (ohlins ttx and fg803 will cost you around4k). plus the carbonf iber front fender, etc. I am talking from experience actualy, I have an 848 but I started to modd it by adding termis, cf parts, etc where in the end the total price is much more than the base 1198. I feel a bit bad and I think that the 1198s would have suited me more. The only reason why I got the 848 is that It is going to be my first bike and the dealer told me that the 1198 will be to much for me. He told me that since I am a begginer, I may not yet appreciate the ohlins suspension, benefits of the steering damper(not true, I benefited from the steering damper a lot) and I may not fully explore the bikes potential for me to appreciate the value of the traction control. and he told me that coming from a gilera fuoco, the 1198 will be a very big leap in terms of performance that I might shy away from it.(is this true?)
But if you are the type who has the discipline when you say "I will keep the bike in stock for" then go for the base 1198. I've ridden one and the l-twin of the 1198 is simply amazing

I read the review and heard good thing about the RC8R and how much they have improve compare the previous, except the throttle. HEADACHE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Cannot DECIDE. TOO BAD DEALER DOES NOT ALLOW TEST DRIVE LIKE CAR!

I probably not going to mod anything other than Full Termi and ECU on the DUC. Not so crazy about mod but just riding everyday!

Because of the daily riding, the review said RC8R is more friendlier on the street and daily driving because of adjustable foot peg?

Will visit dealer again tomorrow to keep on bugging them until they sell to me at $19 or close.

The KTM is a good brand, and very reliable too. In my club, I've seen that the 1198 is faster than the ktmrc8. I do not know about the rc8r though.

RC8 is IMO an ugly bike. I'd get the 1198 base and customize it. Revalve and set up to suit you, maybe BST wheels. That alone would make it superior to an S.
