1198S or 1198?

Guys, ready to cut a deal later this afternoon. I check on Ducati website and compare both model. I only notice the difference on weight, fork, shock and wheel. Are there any difference? Worth paying extra $5k for the S model?

need quick advice as i will be going to dealer in couple hours.

BTW, it is the leftover NEW 09' 1198 White which dealer will cut me a great deal. Or NEW 2010 1198S Red which of course will cut a good deal too. Thank in advance for any advice.

I'm with G on this but I too, just scored an 1198S so take my comments accordingly.

I think you get real value for the additional $5K and it's a smart investment overall. Plus, I'm terrible when it comes to buyer's remorse. The wife still gives me grief over buying my last 911 as within weeks I had a twin turbo on order.

Take solace in knowing you really can't make a bad choice when it comes to Ducati. That grin is still going to be there with either model you ultimately choose.

COOL. Thanks for the advice. I know myself as I only want to have the top of the line whenever I can afford it. However, I want to make sure that is it worth the money just for the ohlin's fork/shock, wheel, DTC and lighter weight. The dealer really wants to get rid of the 1198 and will offer killer deal on the bike and great deals on the accessories to make it as 1198s (except the DTC) and full termi with ecu and still under 1198s MSRP.

Alright, heading to the dealership now after the longer than anticipated meeting (i was physically there but my brain/mind was some where...LOL)

i am in Los Angeles area. BTW, the dealer asked me to make him offer for the 2010 1198s. Anyone can advise? I am thinking of $20k OTD?

Last year, I bought a base model because I didn't plan on keeping my 1198 for long (just until the new MV comes out), but now I do regret not getting an S just a little bit because:

1) I ended up liking the 1198 much more than I did my Tricolore (S model) and I'm not totally blown away by the new MV; also

2) The 1198 does make a lot of torque (especially if you go with a 14T). I orginally said, "well, my right hand IS the traction control) but in retrospect, I'd like to have it. If I did, I won't be as timid applying throttle over painted surfaces (making right turn and passing through the painted cross walks) because I do on occassion get a little bit of rear wheel slip.

I don't loss sleep over not getting an S, but it would be nice to have. On the other hand, I heard you could add the traction control later on.

I think $20K is a good price for LA since the dealer will be eating our higher tax (almost 10%) and registration fees (whcih went up on 5/2009). I think there's a track day & accessory program going on now too.

Thanks Crimson. Anyone else advise the OTD offer? I want to go in with low price yet able to get the deal. If not, i will not cry for it as I have 3 bikes right now!
