Love the R, love the Desmo. If I was in a position to choose, i would go with the Desmo. It is the pinnacle of Ducati development so far. Their path over all of these years, led them to that bike as the ultimate expression of engineering and technology. Just my 2c.

to the OP, I would just call Jeff Nash at advanced motorsports in Texas. He is the most knowledgable person to help you answer any questions as far as service and reliability goes. Good luck and I'd abe happy with either.

I would love to have a Desmo, but I don't see ever trading my R for one. Neither bike is a good daily rider in traffic, and the Desmo less so. I get glimpses of the brilliance of my R in canyon riding and know that to really appreciate it to its fullest, I need to track it. I have not ridden the Desmo, but from what I have read, the Desmo is even more like this. If you cannot ride the bike in the element, or in the way it shines, will you find enough enjoyment in other ways in order to be happy with it...the excitement of being on it, the sound, the exclusivity etc.? If you're going to always have the feeling of, "I always wanted one of those" whenever you see one, then you should go for it. You only go around once.
If it turns out to be a mistake, you deal with it then.
By then, maybe I can afford to buy it from you.
btw, my R is far superior to the 1098S I had.

Looking at your avatar makes me wish that I had a 1098r in my one bike stable.

That bike just does it for me!!!!!!!

Redduck1,

If you choose the Desmo, I command you to post lots & lots of pictures.

I am the type of person, that when considering such amazing things as a desmo, Questions that ultimately makes my decisions are... So what if the ride is stiff.. So what if the bitch runs hot.. I will be riding the closes thing to a moto gp there is. Every time I ride, it is these concepts that make my decisions. The sheer excitement of owning only what those riders uunderstand.I believe that one should not think in practicality when it come to great passions. These passions should not have such bounders. I never consider its heat, ride stiffness, lack of tank range. All I think of is what it will do to me every time I even start it. not to mention ride it. If you see yourself upset at owning such unpractically amazing machine, by all means keep the r, its so cool.
