1. i have only had the first service done but it was only 150 or 250 i cant remember. 2. have no idea about the slipper cluthc.3 i didnt think it got that hot i have seen the post as well i guess maybe im just used to it the only heat i feel is the exhaust on my right leg but its not bad and right now it feels good lol. 4. i dont know about the newer rsv's but my 02 mille is probably the most comfortable sportbikes i have ever ridden. the few women who have been on my duc say it felt really awkward but who really cares what they think lol. 5. i have a tricolore and it comes with full termi's so i have never had the stalling issue or any other problems for that matter.

hope that helps

1. I arranged to get my first service comp'd when I bought the bike, so sorry on that one, I've got no Idea. 2. I had the dealer put on the slipper clutch when they installed the 70mm Full System. To my knowledge Ducati makes 2 different slipper clutches. Mine was around $1000 installed. It's awesome, although I'm quite used to the engine braking of my Aprilias so oddly, I had to adjust to a bike that didn't engine brake as much. 3. Funny question. Definitely boiling nuts is not a pleasant experience. While riding many of these bikes I can say that my nuts have never been boiled lol....however, I think I've cooked my right leg a few times on my '05 Factory R. Ever since I put on the full system (akropovics) It's near brutal after a 100 miles or so. I need to figure that one out. The '01 Mille R never cooks me, niether while stock nor with my full Arrow system. The 1098, no worries on the heat. I've been on that bike for long stints and I honestly don't know why some of the mags feel the need to mention it. It's definitely not a problem. 4. I've never two upped either of my Aprilias or my Ducati. My '01 is a tru Monoposto, the '05 came with the passenger pegs but I had my dealer skip them in setup. Just like the 1098. My wife has no interest riding with me on the Harley, it'd be hysterical getting her on one of the rockets. My Daughter (14) wants to ride on the Duc....so I'll be puttin those pegs on and I'll let you know (in three months ) 5. I've never had the 1098 stall except when I let my brother ride it. And that was operator error. I've got an '08 so what I've heard is that they fixed that issue after the '07s. I had the stock system on for 600 miles and it never stalled once. Went to the full system, and obviously...still no problem. Overall, I think the only problem with the bike is that I don't have more time to ride it.

I was looking at the Black S as well....red frame, mmmmmm......very tasty. Since my other bikes are mostly and mainly black I went red. But hey....red, yellow, black....I get it! Have fun, and good luck.

After a 7 year break from biking, I bought an RC51 and an RSV1000R Factory. I kept both bikes for just under a year, and rode each one not more than 5 times. I have no idea why, but they just didn't make me want to go out and ride. As soon as I sold the Aprilia, I bought my 1098S. Now, I can't stop buying Ducati clothing, modding it (spent US$4,800 so far with BST wheels on order), and I ride it any opportunity I get! There's just something about Ducati that really fires me up. Maybe because I've been lusting after the 916 from the day it came out? Whatever you choose, enjoy!

I have an '02 RST1000 with 53K miles and no motor issues.
If they are having problems with late models, buy used.

Aprilia has created some fine machines......

Unfortunately, Aprilia Dealers come and go, rather quickly.
(Except for AF1 in Texas, which rules. apriliaforum.com)

Hey ZMAN, great taste in bikes, but you should have gone with a Vic.

I do like the Vic's. Very stylie! Plus, they're a Minnesota company with their HQ just down the road from me. One of the company officers just moved into the neighborhood as well....hmmmmmmm, I wonder

how "slim-pickins" is the black 1098S, guys? I emailed a dealer in charlotte, nc...here was what he said:

Thank you for your interest in the 2008 Ducati Superbike 1098s! The black/red frame bike is one of the best looking motorcycles I have ever seen, much less ridden.

I am currently taking down payments for these bikes since supply is tight. I do not currently have one and I have two people on the wait list at this time.

Are there any questions that I can answer about the bike? Please feel free to contact me directly if I can help you in any way.

I look forward to working with you!

Here are my Qs? (I know that for 2008 bikes I wil not necessarily have a tremendous amount of bagain power to get an amzing deal...however, if these bikes are truly "slim-pickins" then i will be forced to pay top dollar if there is an actual waiting list...and therin lies my issue if all this is true...if i pay any money i want an immediate return (I WANT TO TAKE THE BIKE HOME)...and if there is a waiting list then it will be a definate character struggle for me...does anyone know if there is truth to this now that it is almost 2008? or is this a pretty common ploy (based on some truth) to guarentee that i will have very little bargaining power???

thank you to any of you willing to navigate thru my written thoughts to finally get to my questions...
peace

P.S. to what i wrote above...ZMAN you ultimately chose the red b/c of the low supply of the black, right? well if i choose the same path and go with the red 1098s, will it be more feasible for me to have more bargaining power? or is it difficult to walk away from any ducati dealership to feel like you just got a great deal regardless of whatever 2008 purchased?
peace

I chose red since my '05 is nearly all black, and my '01 is mostly black. I figured an all red Ducati was a perfect fit for me. Not sure about the bargaining power considering red vs. black, I ordered a red one, they could've got me the black one as well. I'll bet there are black ones available at a dealer somewhere.

ZMAN,
that friend of mine I was referring to in my post above has exactely a 2001 Factory Replica Aprilia RSV 1000 with ohlins and OZ wheels. His has been modified by Bill Himmelsbach in PA. He purchased it used last year from Himmelsbach and now he practically has to through the engine in the trash or rather pay Between 4 and 6 thousand dollars to fix it. My friend is very upset and he is considering switching to a 1098. Oh... I was forgetting! my friend's RSV has approximately 4800 miles on it...isn't it too little to have a problem with the oil and water mixing inside the engine?
