1098 or 848???

Have you posed this question to the guy riding the 96 600 F2? would love to hear his input. (wow if he was on a litre bike you,d never see him again.

Cblast, I get what you're saying and you are right about the power "on the track", but if you can "ride", believe me you can match 1098 times with an 848. about everything else I dont agree. If everyone thought the way you do, Ducati would probably go out of business.

I bought the 848 because I have always been faster on and enjoyed the less powerful sportbikes a little more. Having owned 160hp liter bikes, hyperbikes, etc. I have discovered I am not skilled enough nor have the temperance to handle a bike with the 1098's power. I am not even a match for the 848's prowess for speed so my advice is to ride both and go with what you are most comfortable with.

I sampled both before buying and was at greater ease with the 848's forgiveness. I also could get away with hamfisting the throttle a bit more on the 848 without worrying about the consequences. All of this at a cheaper cost of entry and insurance rates I could live with sealed the deal.

Try them both; they are both wonderful bikes. Most importantly, make sure you can adapt to the aggressive ergo's.

Good luck,

Del

It really is a simple question to answer. I hear so many people always saying get the bigger bike!!! If you are not going to the track, and you like to joy ride, you will never max either bike. If you go with the 848 you will save money on insurance, techically gas when you really look at it, and it is actually cheaper to maintain. (at least it is here in atlanta). I went from a gixxer 1000 down to the 848 and i have more power than I will ever use. I ride fast and dont even need the 1098!!! The 848 could actually beat the 1098 on tight twisty track anyways!

Buy what you want, I got the 848 because I dont need the 1098. I have no use for the extra power so it wasnt worth it to me. It will be to some and it may be to you but make sure you make the decision that satisfies you because its expensive to do it twice.

every one has neglected to mention the most important thing for you to consider. Coming from your harley you're going to need a good chiropractor and a physio on call to treat you after you're ride.

also if you can buy new get the 1198 and be real careful with the throttle while scraping peg out of the dealers driveway. now its just down to red or white. leave that to u coz i cant decide either.

dnt thank me, just pay it forward

thanks again for all the interesting points made...has anybody ridden both bikes? are the differences when riding in the street that much between the two?

I really dont understand what kind of response you are expecting to hear from us here. Everyone here has their own strong opinion. YOU have to go test ride both and ask your self if the 848 can do for you what the 1198 can. if the answer is yes get the 848 and you just saved your self $$$. If the answer is no, buy the 1198 and enjoy the hell out of it. Some people see the glass half empty and some half full.
