My Filipino friend, let me tell you a true story:
I double majored in engineering and economics at The University of Connecticut. Later, my employer (I was an engineer at a large jet engine manufacturer) paid my tuition to get an M.B.A. from Yale University. My background in economics allowed me to sail through the M.B.A. curriculum.
Major companies love engineers, but they love engineers who can also think business even more. It's one thing to do a good job completing a task you are assigned and even better if you are determining or selecting the task because you have a business understanding of its relative importance to the company.
Economics and engineering are highly intertwined. If you can't see that, you need to expand your thinking.
BTW, I have a lot of respect for engineers, architects, doctors and nurses coming out of Filipino colleges and universities. The rest of the Filipino college graduates are equivalent to Americans who graduate from a good high school or junior college.
