Who would you say are the 10 greatest sporting figures of all time? Here's mine:
10. Michael Schumacher - I honestly believe that in a one on one race, Senna would've won. However no one can compete with Schumacher's record. 7 World Championships, Over 250 races, 91 wins and over 150 podiums and his career points add up to an impressive 1,377. Even though he'll never be as good as he was 5 years ago, it's so good to see Schumacher in an F1 car again.
9. Sachin Tendulkar - Although I can't stand Cricket. I honestly dislike the sport a lot, but I have a lot of respect for Tendulkar. He is the greatest batsman of all time. He made his test debut aged 16, he has made more test appearances for India than anyone else and he's the highest run scorer in the history of the sport with a huge 13,447. To put it simply, he is a phenomenal batsman and it will take something special to beat this man's records.
8. Wayne Gretzky - He has the nickname "The Great One" for a reason. His career achievements pile up. Even if you don't follow Ice Hockey or you don't have a real interest in the sport, everyone has heard of Wayne Gretzky. He wasn't the greatest physical or athletic player but he was intelligent, some might even say he was a genius in the rink. Every youngster wants to be like him and his influence in the game is enormous.
7. Tiger Woods - Forget his personal life and the mistakes he has made. His Golfing record is unbeatable. He has delivered Golfing moments that will always be remembered and I believe he will always be the greatest Golfer of all time.
6. Herb Brooks - The "miracle on ice", arguably the greatest sporting moment of all time was all thanks to him. He took a team of amateurs and collegiate players and they defeated the Soviet Union at the 1980 Winter Olympics in a thrilling game.
5. Pele - He is what made the game beautiful. He could do anything, literally. He was part of the greatest Football team in the sports history. The Brazilian team he was a part of was unbeatable. His career and influence in the game is enviable.
4. Michael Jordan - The greatest Basketball player ever. He has entertained millions and inspired as many. A legend of the sport for years to come.
3. Lance Armstrong - When looking for motivation and inspiration, is there a more touching story?
2. Vince Lombardi - I believe he's the greatest NFL coach of all time. He is one of the greatest motivators of the game and his quotes and speeches will be remembered for years.
1. Muhammad Ali - In my opinion, Ali is the most charismatic sporting figure of all time. Never afraid to stand up for himself or what he believes in and he was a phenomenal boxer and athlete. Even though he didn't have an undefeated career like Joe Calzaghe and Rocky Marciano, Ali's story is one of a kind. His life was special and the legacy he has left behind is legendary.
Note - This is my opinion. Everyone is entitled to their own. I hope you can respect my opinion as I will respect yours.
