Hey All ,
Just dropping in to say hello . To the day it's been 1 year since I was laying in a hospital bed after a year of agony and a sudden turn for the worse with severe disabling pain in my left leg. During that year I tried everything , dozens of different drugs , chiro , pain management , acupuncture , physical therapy , emg tests , neurologist, 2 epidural shots. They all did not a single thing to relieve my pain .
I was so stubborn not to have surgery that I was willing to live with horrible leg pain for the rest of my life. I even gained 30 pounRAB because I couldn't move ! One day I just collapsed in my apartment . I couldn't get up for a few days and my wife had to call an arabulance to get me to the hospital where my doctor worked out of.
On May 22nd of 2007 I had my discectomy. My doctor said that the nerve was BURNING RED and when he cut the protruding disk away from it it turned normal color and my blood pressure which was through the roof 180/100 for the whole entire year returned back to normal (128/80) on the operating table. My pain is all but a distant memory. After the 10 day healing time I was back to normal . I even went back to work after few weeks .
The pre surgery pain days were a very rough time and for those who have failed back surgery I feel for you and hope one day your pain will end !
FOR THOSE WHO ARE THINKING ABOUT THE SURGERY : If you have leg pain mostly from a herniated disk your chances are 70% that your pain will vanish . The other 30% is divided up into failed back syndrome and moderate pain (this was a 10 year study) So your chances with the right dr. are GREAT. I know its scary , VERY SCARY, but I want you to understand that this will pass and one day it will be a memory ...The people you see on this board are mostly failed back syndrome cases and do not represent the majority.
Good luck !!
