...hurt it will it? I've got a 2007 Suzuki DRZ400S. I have a Scorpion slip on exhaust for it, and it has the muffler and midpipe that connects to the headpipe. If i take off the muffler and run it just the headpipe and midpipe, that won't hurt the engine at all will it? I've heard rumors that it could blow a valve or something, but really it's only taking off the one and a half foot of extra pipe to travel through which is the muffler. I was just curious if it will hurt my bike at all. Thanks!!

it will run like crap and burn up valves, the muffler is more than just a foot and a half of pipe. it has a metal baffle core wrapped in fiberglass packing. it adds needed back pressure to the motor. if you want more power from that bike, get a carb from a DRZ400 offroad model, it is a very effective mod, the S model uses a lower flowing carb for emmisions purposes.

No; but if you run by my house in that configuration something is going to hurt. And you can take that to the bank.
The last guy to do that in our neighbourhood had his sparkplug wire disappear overnight.

yes it WILL hurt the engine. it will cause the valve to burn out, and can cause the bike to rum to lean. and that we ruin the whole engine. you need the muffler, with out the muffler there is no back pressure. that is what causes all the problems.

No it shouldn't hurt the motor but soom engines require back preasure to run proberly, the headers will provide some back to the cylinders to keep the exhaust valves from burning up (that happens when you run open heads) but realize it is not leagal to run straight pipes, law enforcers frown on this and could inpound your vehicle on the spot if he is a real dick. i dont think a cop could catch that bike if it came down to it but he would hear every were you go when your on the throttle

Once again, If you change back pressure on the exhaust, you change how the bike runs, lean or rich. It will change the power of the bike and the engine temp, yes it could burn it up, or it might not. It could cause back firing as you carbon up the engine, or maybe not.
If you change the exhaust, you need to tune the carb accordingly.

This is a fact.

yes it will harm the engine if you run a straight through pipe. it will burn the valves and spark plug as the air-fuel mixture will be to lean. if you do this you will have to get a new bigger main jet in the carb
