'07 Fork Oil Change

the manual says to change the fork fluid at 50,000 miles

is that not correct ?? if not correct how many miles before you should

change the fork oil at ??

My last bike ('96 RK) specified 12k-mile change intervals, but the '07 is 50k. After looking at the original oil at around 21k I wouldn't want to go longer, as it was nasty. I'll probably change every 20k, possibly 10k, as it is easy enough to do.

This was so easy, changed at 48,000 on 08 ultra.Had black lower legs put on when it was bought,I think they changed lower legs and put the fish oil back in because it was smelly and black.I will change every 20,000 miles now, thanks iclick.

I don't know where they would've gotten fish oil, so they must've reused the original oil. Anyway, glad the write-up helped. I was elated when I did it and found out how much easier it was than the procedure dictated in the service manual.

iclick, thanks for the great post (and all the other contributors also) ...this is a great of example how well these forums can work! (imo)
My question relates to your statement regarding the vacuum method of extracting the oil. I have a 96 RK (having only recently gotten back on a Harley) and heaven alone knows what condition the oil is in...not too good if the front end wallow is any indication.

I have been contemplating changing the oil but was not even sure how to get the headlight nacelle off to get at the tops of the forks. (Have that sorted now with the help of another post) Do I understand you right that I can suck out the oil through the air valve I use to adjust the air pressure in the head of the forks? Did you need any special fittings at the drain plug or just a suitable tube?

If I opt to fill from the top, the procedure should simply be as otherwise described in these threads right? and access to the fork tops can only be achieved by removing the headlight nacelle?

Finally, I guess with the nacelle off it would probably be a good time to replace the grease in the head stem bearings also.

thanks in advance for any help.

I too want to thank Iclick and all others that chimed in to give great info...I changed mine this morning in about 30 minutes....Installed a SE high flow breather on also and taking it to the dealer for stage I download today.....

I've seen discussions about pre-2000 and 06+, but is there anything special about this process with and 03 RKC? At 35k now, and might be a good rainy day project...
