I'm having two problems with my car (I bought it new, and haven't made any mods to it). It's a 2004 3.0L, manual, with 43K miles.
One problem, according to the mechanic, is a bad starter. Every time I shut my car it stays on for a about 5-10 more seconds before shutting. Does it sound like it is the starter? Or are there other known problems like this with these cars.
The other problem is a little weirder. I had new tires put on by a "reputable" mechanic, no one that I know has had any shady issues with him. BUT... after driving a car for 5 years and not having this problem, I had him put on new tires, and when I came to pick up my car there was an extremely strong sulfur smell. It's like a very strong rotten egg smell. I asked him about it, and he said the catalytic converter is causing the problem. The car smells when it is not being driven (as in, after being left over night in my driveway, when I open the door the odor is very strong.) Does this sound like the catalytic converter? If it is would it be covered by the Federal Emissions Warranty (it's 5 years and 43k miles old)
Thanks!!
Why does my check engine light now come on if this is do to overheated engine and plugged converter. (which make sense)
