Has anyone run into a Ford Freestar with a 4.2 with a water pump where the impeller has come lose?
It'll randomly make a small chirping noise from the water pump area, I've even had a stethoscope on it. The van does not overheat, the water pump pulley has a TINY bit of play in it. All other bearings/pulleys in the belt drive are good. Of course, if the water pump leaked it'd be an easy call, but, it is dry as a bone.

Has anyone else run into these with water pump impeller problems? If so, it'll help confirm my thoughts. :P
Yeah, should have mentioned, factored out the belt squeal, sprayed it with a penetrating oil. The belt was cracked anyway, so it has been replaced.

well out of 30 yrs of working on cars ive seen like two with bad impellers but if you got a sound it could be chirping could be pump going or maybe a pulley try wd40 while running and spray where you think it is if it stops you know what to replace
