I have a 2003 chevy express van with an auxiliary battery and battery isolator...on a cold morning recently, i started the engine and the voltage showed to be 11.5 volts, and the battery light was on...after driving for a while, the voltage went to 14 volts and the light went out...the two batteries and alternator are less than three months old, having been replaced for the same symptoms recently...

Sounds like either the belt was slipping cold or the alternator is defective. The brushes can loose contact with the communtator and
cause this issue. Or the springs holding the brushes are weak .

The 14 volts was your alternator charging the batteries. As you have 2 of them, it takes a little longer.
