02' Jeep Liberty soleniod is making noise?

when I shift it into gear, it makes an electrical grinding sound. Does that mean it's going bad and I'll have to replace something?
 
The solenoid is nothing more than an electrical transfer switch. Its unlikely it will grind as it is an electrical item. The solenoid deals with the starting of the vehicle only and only works when you turn over the key and power goes from the battery to the solenoid and then on to the starter.
