My Camry with 140k miles has never smoked any more than just when you initially crank it up from a cold start. Here recently I noticed a loss of acceleration/power and then afterwards heard a tapping sound coming from the top of the engine, like its coming from the valve cover. I checked the oil after I got home and it was extremely low. Filled the oil back up and the sound is still there. When the car warms up and gets down to idle RPM's, the sound goes away until the RPM's get above 1500 or 2000. The car is still not smoking while running, and the tapping misses beats here and there when revving up, around maybe 2500 to 3000 will almost go away. Anyone have any ideas what this would be? I'm just kinda hoping to find a different possibility than a rod knocking or whatever, but regardless please help! Thanks in advance.
