I've been shopping around and came across these two ads:
2001 Nissan Altima LTD edition, 4 cyl., auto, 120k mi, a\c, cd, pwr seats, very clean, great fuel mi., serviced w/new sticker, 30 day00 mi. warr., $4500
or
1999 Ford Escort 5 spd. manual trans., 82,400 mi., 4 cyl. eng., 2.0 liter, gold color, LX. Has been a good reliable car. $1,750.

My question is which would you go with? Which deal is better, assuming both vehicles are in decent condition. I live in Maine, so pretty soon i'll be commuting an hour to school in the snow...(i have a blazer as well)
The high miles are likely due to the fact you have to drive 40 minutes to get to anything around here :)

I would first find out some basic info on both cars before I would even consider buying them. Since the mileage is relatively high the Nissan, check to see if that was highway miles (easier on the motor). Ask the owner why the mileage is so high for a 2001. I have a 1992 with 189K! Also for both vehicles check to see when the last time the timing belts and water pumps were replaced, if ever. If they haven't been done recently I would move on tot he next car. It is not worth spending the money on a vehicle that you will need to spend more money to have a water pump and timing belt put in. If they have been replaced ask for a receipt to see at what mileage they were replaced.

I had an American made car, as the Ford is, and I had a lot of motor problems with it. I now have a foreign Japanese made car, as the Nissan is, and have had little to no problems at all. Personally I believe that if you maintain a foreign vehicle is will last longer than an American made vehicle.

Good luck on your vehicle purchase.
