01 Mercury Villager won't start. Wondering if this is a security system problem?

I bought a brand new battery, but even before that I had power inside the van (lights, radio, fan, etc..), but it won't start. I know that there is a security system, but since we owned the van we have never had the remote or used the security system. Any ideas on how to either disable the security system or what the problem might be?

Does it turn over? If not, check the fuses, including for the security system, it is probably one of the others like for the starter.
If it does turn over, I would check to see if the coil is getting power followed by the distributor. Also remove one or more of the plugs to see if they are clean, dry and not corroded. Finally see if your car can be push started and, if so, try to push start the car.
