01 Honda 400 EX troubles, help?

i have a 01 Honda 400 ex, and it dosent want to run correctly when im on the gas, when it is idleing it seems to do better but when i am reving the engine or go out to ride, the engine seems to be getting cut off and it starts to die, then it picks back up and runs ok for a second or 2 then it starts to die again and then it just dies all together, it starts ok and idles ok, i just cleaned out the carb really well, what could this be? could i have missed somthing in the carb? thats what the guy at the Honda shop told me, he said it had to be the carb and they could boil it down for like 80 bucks, any other ideas? thanks alot
