    Has anyone else noticed this peculiarity about Southern California?

    I think it is because there is always something going on... where as in other areas of the county that's not the case. It might not be big things... but you can find events for every day = like Wed night there is a restuarant in West Hollywood that has celebrity bingo and a "celebrity" shows...

    is it okay to go to a restaurant alone and dine in?

    The more you go the less awkward it feels. I travel for work a lot. I want to experience the city, so I eat in restaurants along a lot. It was weird for awhile. Sometimes I bring a magazine / book, sometimes not. But now it's not a big deal at all.

    I think you are reading too much into your supervisors comments. - they have to present areas that you need improvement. It goes back to- no one is perfect. Attending team building training sound fun to me.

    Why does the real estate agent think it is not selling. In Maine, you probably have a short real estate season, I would listen to the agent but probably keep it on the market for the remainder of the season.
