I don't think any garage would cheat with brakes, however any average front brakes for a heavy car is between 25 to 30k's providing is a male drive (use less brakes than female) but that is not the issue if you are driving down town all the time depending on your brakes to slow you might be...

I guess the spark plugs HT leads are wrongly place (swapped) you have to trace the HT leads from the distributor where they are marked cylinder 1, cylinder2, cylinder 3 etc... as they have to be plugged properly otherwise will happen what you are experiencing. from what you describe your car...

it is the starter motor, to have it starting you need someone who knows what we are talking about (sorry no offence, as you need to locate the starter motor) and do a bit of soft tapping with a hummer on the starter motor maybe you are lucky to start it for once just to get you to the nearest...

can you give more info, but I am sure you can't because you have exhausted all obvious possible reasons, the only thing that I would think about now is your valve, try an additive called valve quietner or engine quietner, good luck mate. p.s. I would check the belt again and the belts pulleys.

steel coat hanger or a plastic strip slided through the door and try to reach the locks on the door to unlock the car. or call for a tow truck they might unlock it for you by sliding a metal bar to unlock the door... for sure you wont need a locksmith as any experienced mechanic or handy...
