    Iphone 3G find any network on wi-fi?

    my brother gave me his iphone 3G because he recently bought the iphone 4 and when i try to find a wi-fi network, it cant find any. when it does find a network, it disappears straight after. i updated it to the 4.0.2 firmware. could this be a problem with the phone or something else?
