    What is breaking in on a bike (brakes)?

    What does it mean to break-in your bike (bicycle, not motorcycle) brakes? I have disc brakes, does this mean getting the break pads to conform to the rotor?

    Are bike disc brake pads supposed to be of equal thickness?

    I just recently got a new bike (in the mail!), and I assembled it myself, and it came with disc brakes. However, the rotor scratches against the brake pads. I took it apart, and see that the two brake pads are of DIFFERENT thickness, and so it can't align properly with the rotor. Is this normal...
