    Is a chain guard really necessary on a bmx bike?

    i recently bought a 27lb bike, and i was wondering if the chain guard is necessary. The guard itself is light of course, but the parts that attach it to the bike would add some weight. Does it really protect ur chain? becuase the last bike i had (wasnt a bmx bike) the chain fell off
