I may be more economical to buy a new cam as the repair would probably cost more than your cam is worth.

Most mics will work outdoors but wind noise can be a problem,A carbon mic is less sensitive that an electroset so I suggest you go for one of those & fit one of those noise reducing furry covers which will reduce unwanted noise.

Ignore Rugratz, There are plenty of camcorders that will do the job, if I mount my JVC on a tripod I get perfectly good results.
