    He should be fine maybe he feels like hiding many bettas like their privacy so maybe het some plants and some rocks for them and i dont think he would be able to put the gravel is his rock if ur still concerned maybe get some sand which they sell at many local shops it's just white pure sand...

    What kind of fish should I get?

    it shouldnt be too agressive and many other small fish u can add is maybe guppies or even some platties since it's just a ten gallon you shouldnt get any fish that would grow up to big and maybe just some black more goldfish or anything as long as it's small
