^for the calendar issue, maybe it's a press and hold vs tap that determines which behavior you get? perhaps sometimes the press is a slightly longer (long enough that it registers as a hold) and the other sub menu pops up? i dunno, just a stab in the dark. I've used other resistive touch phones...
