Tress MacNeille always voiced a cheerful, crazy, sweet character but also cruel, sarcastic and evil characters, I always laugh when she does those grunt noises she does when she gets mad.

I prefer to describe that kind of thing as a homage. It's not really the show's fault if it gets over the audience's head (and in truth, I didn't know this either!).
