Have you looked at the Nokia 6230i? It runs S40, which is known to be pretty fast. It has bluetooth, MP3 ringtones, is a candybar format (so nothing to get lose or break), SMS, and all the usual jazz. You can probably get them brand new for less than $200 nowadays.
