    Flaws in images: If it's a portrait look for background things that seem to protrude from the head like a pole or a tree branch In landscapes look for the horizon line being tilted or simply a static shot that has no real interest or story - sometimes a close crop can change the drama...

    The exposure time was very long which means they had to sit still (stiff) for a very long time - this makes them look odd or creepy as you call it

    Easiest way to make a person-sculpture?

    you're on the right track - as an art teacher, its what I would suggest. Using plaster strips is good too; its a lot sturdier than paper mache
