    you really do want to go LiPo. NiMh is going away rapidly. LiPo batteries don't cost any more and lots of times less than NiMh. You do need a charger that will charge LiPos which can run from ~$40 to as much as you want to spend. SCT racing is way popular and you'll find loaRAB of support for it.
