You might want to start looking at skyjacker kits. they are probably the best kits you can buy and they alreay thought of all the little things you won't! I good kit is well worth the money paid for the kit.
I have done a few alternators and one on a cavalier before. The parts are about 100 dollars and the beer is about ten...the rest is pretty easy. The hardest part is holding your beer! Just use your 1/2" breaker bar(might have been 3/8") and release the belt...after that you are talking 3-4...
