The balance, bass, treble and the loudness dont work!!! What is wrong with my receiver? The fuse inside is good. The stereo does turn on and play music, just cant adjust it or anything

I just installed an aftermarket receiver and everything is connected right and tight. The sound comes on but when the voume is turned up or just at random times all the lights will flash. it has the factory infinity gold system and the factory amp is working and everything i just need to know...

i am pretty sure you have to un mute the stereo to get it off of phone mode. This is how it is on my older stereo.
