    Do some TV stations have software that prevents people from recording their shows?

    I don't know if this is true or not, but I heard that some TV stations have software that scrambles the picture if you try to record it with a DVD recorder. But you could record it with a VCR though. Is this true? Because I don't want to get a DVD recorder if it means i can't tape off the TV...
