What reason could they possibly have to keep stuff like that secret? It's not like the aliens would be -here-, they would probably be many light years away; possibly so far away that they could be extinct by the time we see their signals.

People are constantly trying to pass drug tests without actually knowing how they work. I've never seen people do anything crazier or more nonsensical when they try all of these 'remedies.' I suppose that's what you get when the community giving advice is a bunch of drug users trying to avoid...
