Verizon Samsung Stratoshphere or Incredible 2?

What does getting an upgrade with Verizon mean?
I have never gotten an upgrade before but last december (2010) I got a text saying I could get one. Well I never got around to it and now I am thinking of getting a new phone. What does this upgrade entail? A free phone? A discount?
