    Does paint primer really help cover up tape/patch/mud/spackle?

    I've heard people say priming drywall makes a big difference especially when covering up tape or putty and drywall compound patches? Sometimes you just can't sand things perfect, does it really make a big difference and help hide, rather than just painting on 2-3 coats?
